September 6, 2009

Well we had a pretty successful first week of school I think.  Timothy found all his classes and said his locker was easy to operate.  Morgan had good reports on all 3 days (his lunchtime isn't until 1pm though!  can you believe that?  luckily they let him have his sandwich for morning snack).  Jocelyn was very happy to be back at preschool with a few old friends and many new ones.  Jesse was glad to get to go grocery shopping again!

Jocelyn and Jesse started Little Kickers soccer on Friday.  It was a hot day!  They got to take water breaks or really any break for any reason whenever they wanted.  In the beginning another girl came up to Jocelyn and told her she didn't look like a girl. Jocelyn yelled "I AM A GIRL!"  The other girl's mom told her that wasn't very nice, and Jocelyn said "YEAH" and walked away.

One little boy from Jocelyn's preschool was there (as well as a little girl from her class) but he was too scared to join in.  Jocelyn talked to him and he stopped crying, but he still stuck to his mom instead of joining the group.  Jesse joined right in though.  I told Josh that Jocelyn must've been the oldest in the group, and Jesse the youngest.  Josh agreed Jocelyn must have been the oldest, but said for sure Jesse didn't seem like the youngest and at the very least was not the smallest.  Some kids who had been there last year were sitting on their soccer balls waiting for the coaches, so Jesse and Jocelyn followed along without being told.

The coaches are from the UK, and I guess Jesse was rather confused by the accents! Josh said that they would both follow the instructions given (they do it in story form - this week was a tour through a pirate ship, so kick your ball this way, say ahoy captain, kick it that way, etc) but whenever there was a break to reset, they would look for and find each other, and then immediately get back together and stand next to each other.

I wrote to Miss Dana to tell her about Jocelyn trying to help with her friend.  This is what she wrote back:

How nice of her!  Jocelyn is such a wonderful child - she is always kind and gentle, actively involved with what's going on, adding her own insight to everything, enjoys playing with everyone, as well as independent and comfortable with being herself.  Not to mention she's cute as pie!  On Thursday she went to the Reading Center and I asked if I could read with her, she said, "Oh yes".  So after 2 readings of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, which she said was her favorite book ever, she thanked me for reading it to her and told me I was very special.

We switched electric companies a few months back and with it came 4 tickets to a Rock Cats game today.  So after debating a bit, we decided we'd split the kids evenly. Josh took the easiest and the hardest, and I took the 2 in the middle.  Care to guess who I was left with?  Yup, Jesse got to go to his first baseball game!  Meanwhile, I decided to take Jocelyn and Morgan over to the playground.  Jocelyn talked to EVERYONE and told them EVERYTHING and made up a few extra things when she ran out of material (apparently tomorrow is her birthday and we're having a big party).  Morgan wandered around for a bit and eventually settled into a swing (one of those special big ones with the full back) in the little kid area because there were fewer people there.  We stayed for about an hour and a half.  Neither wanted to leave, but I reminded Jocelyn how she had promised to listen when it was time to leave, and she left willingly.  Morgan I had to coax to the car with offers of red juice (gatorade).

Then we came home and had a bubble bath.  Jocelyn got out after one round of the jets, but Morgan and I stayed for 2 more.  He loves it.  Afterwards he came down and fell asleep on the couch while Jocelyn and I were watching Little Women.

Fun was had at the baseball game as well.  A random kid from the audience had caught a foul ball and gotten it signed by all the mascots and then came over and gave it to Jesse.  Jesse was beside himself with happiness.  5 minutes later the same kid caught another.  Good karma is powerful.  On the way out, driving to the highway, Timothy happened to be looking out the window and saw a man with no legs in a wheelchair crossing the street drop his sweatshirt without knowing it.  Josh pulled over and Timothy jumped out, grabbed the sweatshirt, and ran up to give it to the man, who was very grateful.
