February 7, 2009

Well Jocelyn had a very nice birthday - thank you all for the birthday wishes and cards.  We were worried that she wouldn't have school because of the snow, but that turned out not to be a problem.  So she got up Wednesday morning and put on her new fancy birthday dress and tucked her coordinated doll into her backpack and went to school.  Josh and Jesse and I picked her up and we all went to Friendly's for lunch.  She told everyone it was her birthday and she was four.  Hee hee.  She ate all her lunch and some of her ice cream.  Then she said "Mommy, I have to pee on the potty right away".  So off we ran!

Later in the afternoon we set up her party together - she tied a balloon to each chair while I set out the plates and cups.  Uncle Joey came over.  When the boys got off the bus we did presents and cake.  Jesse wasn't super about the fact that he wasn't getting any presents, but he managed to hang in there.  Jocelyn loved all her news clothes and toys (one hit was a tinker belle barbie).  My mom sent a hand mirror with glitter and stickers to decorate, so after cake she said she had to decorate her hand mirror "right away".  Hee hee, I guess that's the new expression.

Later Cousin Ruby called and sang Happy Birthday over the phone - so cute!

Anyway, she had a very nice day, my little 4 year old.  It's funny, I remember when I turned 30.  We had been trying to get pregnant for a while and I got a not so great birthday present that year.  When I blew the candles out, I wished for another baby. It took a few more months before we got pregnant, but another baby we got.  And I'm so glad that wish came true!

Jesse's new thing is to pat you on the shoulder and say, "don't worry mommy" (or whoever).  Sometimes it fits the moment, other times not so much.  I think because I hugged him the first time he did it, he just does it for the hugs.  The other thing he does is put his finger to his mouth Austin Powers style and say "hmmm, I don't think so.”

Funny story about Morgan this week (is that 2 in a row?).  We've discovered that he likes the fleece/flannel PJs that were the Christmas PJs year in 2007 (and still fit). He had worn them and then they'd been washed and were in a clean pile of clothes.  He pulled the pants out and asked Josh to put them on him.  He's never requested having clothes put ON before!  Then he started fishing through the pile trying to find the top.  He found Jesse's set and put that top on (button front) - it was a fat-guy-in-a-little-suit situation!  I can't even believe he actually got it on, it was too funny.  Josh took it off him and put it back in the pile.  He pointed to the pile and asked for cows (the PJs are actually polar bears).  Josh went out to the dryer to see if they were there.  When he got back, Morgan had Jesse's top on again!  It was just hysterical. Luckily Josh located the right top and held it up to show Morgan, who then discovered he was stuck in Jesse's top - hahaha.  So we got him straightened around and put to bed and I went to Land's End (.com) and found some flannel PJs on clearance and bought 2 more pairs.

Timothy's team almost won a game today!  Josh took him, but says I missed quite a game, and that the little ball hog was actually passing the ball today!  He said they got very close but lost by 2.  Still, they played much better than usual.  His class went on a field trip to Sturbridge Village on Friday.  Who goes on a field trip to Sturbridge in February??

I made it out for another run today.  I didn't recover from last Sunday's run until Wednesday, but I did eventually recover.  Today was supposed to be in the mid-40s. Well I have a hard time believing it even made it to 40.  It seemed much colder than last week.  I wear think running pants with knee support built in (yes, I'm getting old) and usually keep me plenty warm, but even my legs were chilly today.  Then I wear two layers on top.  I should have put on a vest as well.  I did wear a hat, so my ears weren't cold.  And my foot didn't hurt like last week, so the callous must be coming along nicely.  Anyway, I was a bit slower than last week, but I did hang in there for 5.5miles at an 11:15 pace overall.  The last mile was a struggle.  This time I remembered to stretch afterwards, so I'm hoping recovery will be quicker!  So far so good.

We got a bit backed up on laundry, so I also did 10 loads of laundry today.  2 loads are still folded on the table, the rest are at least in the right room, Jesse's and Jocelyn's are put away.  Had to leave something to do tomorrow!  In addition I have to get Jocelyn to write out her Valentines tomorrow - which I'm guessing will be easier than when I had to force Timothy when he was that age.

question of the week:

This week's question comes to us from Incredulous in Indiana who writes "the possible 5th kid thing was just a joke, RIGHT?"

Well Incredulous, I'll tell ya, if I hit the lotto and could stay home with Josh and still maintain the lifestyle I've become accustomed to, I'd have a couple more kids in a heartbeat.  When Jocelyn asked for another brother, I did for a split second think, hmmmm, where could we fit in a 5th?  But no, no 5th for us.  I'll be 35 shortly, which has long been my own personal cut off age for having kids (due to the fact that I want to retire in my late 50s).  I do love all these kids though, and could easily love even more, but we've reached the point where it just isn't practical any more.  We're out of bedrooms and chairs at the table.  So don't worry Incredulous, we're stickin'.
