We got a call from Elisabeth on Friday that she and Mandy had no power and how were we. No problems here. I invited them down but she said they had other plans. I heard from my parents that so far they still had power in NH though not in Boxboro. Then today we got a call that they lost it in NH and would be here in a couple hours. I said I wasn't cleaning! haha. Of course we tidied up the big pieces anyway. I had to leave a few things for my mom to keep her entertained - a big pile of socks to be matched, Jocelyn's room which looked like a cat had a fight with a tissue box and won by a landslide, and Timothy's linens if they wanted something clean to sleep on. Took her all of 10 minutes and then I was out of things for her to do! I should have left some kind of floor that needed refinishing and maybe a human that needed to be cloned if I expected to keep her occupied for the afternoon. But anyway, we managed to keep entertained playing with the kids.
Yesterday was Timothy's 2nd basketball game. They got creamed again - 30 to 11. The first half was something like 12 to 7 and I thought maybe this week wouldn't be as bad as last week, but I was sorely mistaken. Timothy played more than half as they were down a player, but didn't have any points. He's a good passer though and did have one particularly impressive assist. His team seemed more off than usual - passing over heads and out of bounds. The same little quick blond that hogged the ball and ran in to the wall last week did the same sans hitting the wall again. If his shots actually went in, his ball hogging might be less irritating. With less than a minute to go it was 30 to 9 and I said to the mom next to me, I understand they won't be winning much this year, but I hope we can just get into the double digits today! So, a minor victory.
I had Timothy's parent-teacher conference on Tuesday. Boy is his teacher a loon. We spent the whole time talking about her retirement (this is her last year) and her daughter and son and that she's divorced so has to do all the shopping herself and of course how she's so close to the girls in the class (wth?). Then I was even later to work than I would have been due to an accident on the way in. Total waste of time.
Morgan' conference on Friday was better. His special teacher said that since they've stopped trying to work on his scripting, his aggressive behaviors have disappeared. Also for all the skills that he does have (can tell time, has roughly age appropriate math, lags in reading but can read simple books and answer questions about them, etc) he has an amazing lack of expressive language. It's true. Jesse's had a better command of the language for over 6 months now. Morgan's language has been growing (a little anyway) and now they are noticing that he doesn't really know the names of very many things. So they are spending time each day just naming different things all around the room. He continues to spend good chunks of time in the regular room and his friends are still very kind to him. They actively include him in everything they are doing, especially 2 of the little girls. One day when they had indoor recess, Morgan had his game boy and got to sit with all the other boys and play game boy like everyone else.
The kids had early release 3 days this week (for conferences) and long story short Josh ended up having to take both Jocelyn and Jesse to the grocery store. He said they were awful. Then at checkout they each grabbed a balloon and handed it to the checker. Josh was bagging and saw it and told the checker no, they don't get those. She said "oh let them be kids" and ran them through. OMG! I would have totally laid into her but Josh was busy trying to not beat them I guess. Out of the blue he's walking out of the store and Uncle Joey was walking in. Joey said he heard Josh yelling a few choice words and looked and saw him and Josh saw Joey and picked Jesse up and threw him at Joey and said "take this!" Joey helped get everyone to the car and then went back in to get stamps that Josh forgot and met them all back at home. I was working from home so I took away the balloons and put them up high where the kids could see them but not have them. I really can't believe that checker!
I can't think of any funny stories with the little ones this week. I'm sure there were some, but I'm so tired right now, they escape me. I hope everyone who has been without power gets it back very soon and keeps warm!
