February 21, 2010

It's funny the moments that stick in your head.  Watching Firestarter for the first time.  A summer trip to my grandmother's where I was watching Little House on the Prairie and crying and my grandfather was pacing in the kitchen thinking there was something wrong with me.  The first time I dove in a meet in high school that I didn't come in last (or maybe the only time?).  Little flashbacks from time to time that pop in out of nowhere.  But there's one moment that keeps coming back to me over and over.

It was early one morning in June.  Timothy was a few days old.  He was new enough that I was still riding on adrenaline.  It wasn't 6am yet and I had just put him back to sleep after a bottle.  Josh was still in bed.  I made coffee and I sat and had a cup.  And that's it.  A simple moment, sitting and sipping coffee.  And yet it pops into my head regularly.  Maybe because I remember so fondly how quiet it was, maybe I'm envious of early mornings when I still used to sneak out of bed before anyone else was up and just be, or maybe because I was just simply happy.  And now when it jumps into my mind, I smile.  I have a feeling the next time I get to have a cup of coffee by myself, it just won't be the same.

It was sort of a hectic crazy week around here.  Snow, school vacation, my boss on vacation, it was a lot at once!  Sort of a blur though, I can't really remember much except that Jesse has constant boogars, both Jocelyn and Jesse seem to have spent the week in their bathing suits, Morgan didn't get quite as many showers as he needed, and Timothy spent the latter half of the week talking funny.

Timothy got a palette extender on Wednesday.  It's a rather obtrusive piece of metal that extends between his two top molars.  Josh has to turn it once each morning and once each night.  It makes him lisp and slurp and swallow rather awkwardly.  I can't believe he has to keep it in for months!  On the positive side, I was checking out his teeth tonight and I swear it's working already - I can actually see the teeth beside his two front teeth.  It took him a few days to get used to eating, but he seems to be able to manage ok now.
