November 14, 2009

Timothy got an award this week - there is an autistic kid in a couple of his classes that is much like Morgan except more verbal.  He has a para with him all day.  Timothy likes the kid, and was beside him in class.  The kid had said something funny (I guess he's really funny, at least according to Timothy) and Timothy laughed and reached out and touched his shoulder in appreciation of the joke.  I guess his para reported this to the principal, who the next day gave him a certificate saying he had be caught being kind to others.  Isn't that so nice?!

Jocelyn is obsessed with spelling out words these days.  She can spell CAVE, Mommy, Dear, Jocelyn, and Jesse by herself.  She learned CAVE from Josh, who spelled it out on the computer in all capital letters, so that's how she writes it.  Dear, Mommy, and Jesse she learned from me writing them for her, so they have capital and lower case.  Too funny.  There are papers all over her room that say Dear Mommy CAVE Dear Jesse CAVE.  Then lots of papers that just have combinations of letters and sometimes she asks me what they say and laughs when I tell her the funny word she has constructed.  There was a journal that came with the Up dvd we bought this week.  Jesse had it in his hands and I told him it was for Jocelyn so he went over and told her it was for her.  She about exploded with happiness and hugged him and told him she loved it and loved him, and then came to show me what Jesse had given her.  All because of a little book of lined paper!  She cracks me up.

Jocelyn's teacher reports the following:

I've seen a lot of progress already this year with Jocelyn.  She's a bit more tuned-in to what is going on (definitely at the 4-year-old vs 3-y-o level).  She is like a little sponge with learning and is such a wonderful model in the class.  She is also very very kind to some of the students who don't always speak up for themselves.  There is another child who comes in for only part of our morning, and Jocelyn always makes sure to greet her and offers to share her toys or materials with her.  If the other student can't find a place to sit, Jocelyn always offers to help her find a seat.  So sweet!

Morgan is in chorus this week and they sang for the school for the Veteran's assembly this week.  His teacher wrote that he sang his heart out and has a very nice voice.  She said he really enjoyed it and at the end shouted "yes!".  His school pictures came back this week (we're still waiting for Jocelyn's) and they came out great!  Much better than last year - and wait until you all see his hair!  It looks awesome in the picture!

I don't know if I mentioned that Jesse is now fully out of diapers, even at night, and we cleaned out the diaper closet a week or two ago and got rid of everything.  Woo hoo!  Jesse continues to be a general pain in the butt, and has the vocabulary of a pirate, but there's a spark in him that is the brightest of all the kids.  He puts together really complex thoughts and sentences.  He loves his play group.  This week as he came out of class he said, very loudly, "I had fun!" and made all the parents laugh.

My holiday cards have arrived and I've started addressing them.  It will take extra long this year because I ordered 75 and then sent me 150!  Now I have to find 75 more friends - yikes!

Well Jocelyn has finally agreed that her room is a pig sty and asked me to help her clean it, so I guess that's the agenda for today - hope everyone has a great weekend!
