Does it ever stop raining in Maine?! oyoyoy! We got here Saturday and it was overcast but we swam just the same after we unpacked and such. Sunday started out overcast but brightened up for a bit at least, especially nicely since Mandy and Elisabeth and their families came over and all the kids got to go swimming. Jocelyn got too much sun and ended up with a fever and a very foul mood and headache, so I put her to bed at 6 and the rest of us ate dinner that Jeff cooked out on the grill during a torrential downpour while Josh held a nice long piece of aluminum (an umbrella) in the lightening storm. Oh well, he survived it.
Jocelyn woke up at midnight feeling yucky again and it took another round of ibuprofen and 2 hours to get her back to sleep. Monday everyone came back for lunch, plus my parents and grandma Lessard and we all had italians and chips and such. The sun poked through a bit, but then rain. Tuesday was supposed to be the good day on the forecast - some sun, but then more rain. Mom and Dad treated to lobsters and we all played poker. Oh, and mom and I played 5 games of scrabble. One of us won 4 of them, I won't say who, since that would be bragging. This time it was Jesse that decided not to sleep much over night.
Today it rained ALL DAY - we didn't even get to swim! We were going a little stir crazy so finally went out. We drove up 302 way into Bridgeton to a Dunkin' Donuts and got a coffee, then drove back and stopped at a pizza place that had no one there and all went in and ate. We were debating whether we would eat inside or take it home, but when I pointed out that eating there would make less mess for us to clean up, Josh got on board with the idea.
They had a TV on in the eating area and it was tuned into curious george - lucky break! It was also ridiculously loud, so you couldn't tell that my kids are also ridiculously loud - lucky break again! So we all ate there without incident - yay! Then we drove around for a while trying to kill time before bedtime. We did a mental list of our prior vacations and it took a while to piece them together, so I will write them here for my own record - you can feel free to skip on.
1998 - with mom, dad, Mandy, Elisabeth, and Jeff (and Timothy, 3 weeks old) on Big Sebago with the house that had a million steps down to the water. That's the place where Whembley died.
1999 - we call this one the "sick house" because we all took turns getting sick. Mom, Dad, Elisabeth, Mandy, and Jeff (and Timothy). Mandy showed up at 5am after driving through the night and tried to wake Timothy up but luckily I heard her come in and threw my body in front of his playpen. Timothy watched Uncle Jeff play hockey on the play station - we didn't know it was foreshadowing at the time. We got Timothy a little toy fire truck from the consignment store that is still a favorite toy at our house. Josh started growing his beard out.
2000 - the goose poop house on Brandy Pond. Mom, Dad, Mandy, Jeff, and Timothy. I was 36 weeks pregnant. Great lawn except that it was covered with goose poop.
2001 - this was the year mom & dad bought the condo so Maine trips ended. We spent a week in NH though with them, and Mandy, Elisabeth, Jeff, and Ruby joined us for part.
2002 - Our first family vacation. Thomas Pond. House was adorable but water was not swimmable for adults because you couldn't get deeper than your knees. Kids loved it though. There was a garden patch in the lawn and Morgan walked circles around it for hours each day. Didn't seem weird at the time and kept him quiet. The master bedroom had a jacuzzi tub. The other bedroom had bunk beds and Timothy slept up top. It was just the 4 of us for the week.
2003 - Rob's first year! A cottage with 2 bunk houses on Tripp Lake in Poland around Peter's wedding. Mandy (pregnant with Sage), Jeff, Ruby, Elisabeth, Rob, Mom, and Dad for the first few days, then just the 4 of us for the rest of the 2 weeks. Elisabeth, Rob, Josh and I played drinking games. We would have played "hockey" but Rob wasn't sober enough to explain it. I had been trying to get pregnant for several months and was unhappy not to be. Timothy had SOOOO much fun at Peter's wedding, though he thought he was going to get to marry Elisabeth while there and cried all the way home because he didn't.
2004 - 2 weeks on Little Sebago, finally pregnant with Jocelyn, about 9 weeks. Had a scare while there and thought I was losing her, but it worked out (obviously). Mom and Dad came for most of the first week.
2005 - no vacation - had spent all my PTO on maternity leave and all my money on a new house!
2006 - 2 weeks in the same place on Little Sebago, pregnant with Jesse. Mom and Dad came for a few days the first week.
2007 - 2 weeks in the same place on Little Sebago, NOT pregnant - haha. Found out that it's not as easy as it sounds to have Morgan, Jocelyn, and Jesse all share a room!
That brings us to our new place this year on Big Sebago. For those of you familiar with the area, we're on the little thumb that juts down into the lake from 302, near the tip, north facing up across Jordan Bay. The house is real nice - upstairs has 2 bedrooms - one with a King bed for me and Josh and one with 2 twins for Jocelyn and Jesse, plus a full bath. The main floor has one bedroom with a queen, plus there's an eat-in kitchen, living room, and a full bath. The basement is finished and has a full bed and a full futon where Timothy and Morgan are sleeping (though we had planned to move Morgan up to the main floor now that my parents are gone - just forgot tonight). It has a slider out to the water but it locks and Morgan hasn't figured it out, so that's good. There's a deck on the main floor off the eat-in kitchen. TV on the main floor and in the basement, both with cable, and high speed wireless which is nice. The beach is nice and sandy and the water gets deep enough, and at a good pace. The water is great! It's a little hairy with Jocelyn and Jesse sharing a room, but it wouldn't be if they would just sleep through the night!! I guess I could put Jocelyn down on the main floor but that seems far away still, maybe next year.
Not a lot else to update on - had a very busy week right before we left getting everything ready and also Josh got the rest of the bark mulch down (though it just needs to be smoothed out a bit). I spent one evening perched on top of the minivan with Josh holding a flashlight so I could see as I installed the racks on top so that we could bungee all our clothes and linens up there. Made fitting everything in the car SO much easier!! So that was time well spent. I had a lot to finish up at work before I went, so also put in a few extra hours there. All in all it was a nuts week but who cares now, I'm on vacation.
Please everyone send us sunny vibes! According to the 10 day forecast, it's not going to clear up until the day we go home - booooo!!
