January 18, 2009

ahhhhh, 3 day weekends rock!

So I don't tell too many stories about Josh, but this week I have one.  It may seem like a story about Jocelyn at first, but hang in there.

Jocelyn is afraid of various things - the dark, bugs, etc.  This week Josh had the car warming up before he took her to school.  He put her in and went around to put Jesse in.  She started screaming.  Turns out she was afraid that if the car was on, it would drive away and she'd be alone in the car.  The whole way to school she kept asking Josh if he had his hands on the wheel.  The next morning she said she didn't want to go to school.  Josh knew why.  And he didn't tell her to suck it up, and he didn't tell her she was being silly.  No.  He went out and warmed the car up, then once it was warm, he turned the car off.  He came back inside and handed her the keys, which she held until everyone was buckled in and then handed them over to Josh so he could drive to school.  I asked her that night if she wanted to talk about the car and why she was scared.  "No mommy, I hold the keys, so I'm not scared." And so for now she holds the keys, because her dad understands her and loves her.

I was reminded once again this week that I'm old.  Tuesday on the walk to my car I was totally fine.  Once in the car, my knee hurt.  Hurt to press the pedal, just sort of ached.  Getting out of the car was not pleasant, and stairs were the worst.  I don't know what happened except that I was on the phone with Josh while getting into the car and have a ridiculously heavy backpack that I was tossing into the passenger seat at the same time (will they ever make a light laptop??) and I must have twisted it.  I limped for 3 days!  Couldn't get back on the Wii Fit until Saturday - such a bummer!  But it's fine now.  Of course, today I did the boxing on Wii Fit and threw my shoulder out of whack.  My goodness!

Timothy's team won their second game this week - 18 to 13.  They are still terrible, but the other team was worse.

Jesse and Jocelyn have the ability to be quite adorable when they want to be.  One afternoon this week Josh put Jesse down for a nap (put the gate up in his doorway) and then he and Jocelyn laid down in our room to watch TV and perhaps catch a couple ZZZZs as well.  Jocelyn quietly made an escape and Josh could hear her in the hallway talking with Jesse and trying to come up with a plan to spring him from his room.  When Josh went out there, they had built a tower of blocks and crates so he could climb out - except they were all piled onto the wrong side of the gate!  Jesse was handing her stuff from his room and she was stacking it up against the gate from the outside.

Then yesterday morning I could hear the two of them chatting in the hallway again. I went out and Jocelyn had dragged her sleeping bag into the hallway and was lying in it just outside of his doorway, and Jesse had taken his blanket off his bed and was lying right on the inside of his doorway (the gate divided them).  They were just chit-chatting.  It was so cute!

Morgan had a worksheet come home from school this week that had "independent work" written on it.  It had coins and he had written what they were worth together. Not believing he could do that, I lined up a nickel and two pennies on the counter and asked him how much.  "5 6 7, 7 cents."  Josh and I looked at each other.  "ok, but that was an easy one," Josh says.  So I line up a quarter, nickel, and penny (by the way, they have to be heads up, in case you ever decide to try this) and ask Morgan how much.  "5 10 15 20 25 30 31, 31 cents," he says.  Well what do you know.

We can't keep juice in the fridge any more.  Or at least not when we're asleep.  If Morgan beats us down in the morning, he drinks all the juice.  ALL OF IT.  Like a whole half gallon of juice!  So now the juice has to be put out at night.

Jocelyn and Jesse did their body tests on the Wii Fit today.  Jocelyn weighs 33 lbs and Jesse weighs 28 lbs.  The first time we did it it put Jocelyn at only 28 lbs, but that must have been a mistake because she's consistently been 33 lbs since then.  Jesse has gained a pound since we got the Wii Fit and is now in the "normal" range vs. underweight - hee hee.  Jocelyn is normal too - though both are on the low side and their characters are pretty thin!  Jocelyn is about 3 inches taller than Jesse is.

We got more snow today.  Super fluffy and it was almost warm out today - had to have been in the 30s anyway.  We only got a couple inches, maybe 4 tops, but now it's snowing again.  I have to get to CVS tomorrow as I have Extra Care Bucks expiring!  gasp!
