I was thinking this week about why I write these updates. While it makes me happy that some of you enjoy them, and happier yet when some of you write back (infrequent though that may be for most of you!), that's not why. To tell stories that I think I'll remember but won't... sure. But at the root is one main driver. Some day I want my kids to read these and know how much I loved them.
I thought of this on my way to bed, as I was putting blankets back on each and turning off their lights. I pause each night as I do this, and just stare at them for a moment. So perfect, so sweet, so... quiet.
Don't get me wrong, I love them when they're loud too. Especially when I first come home each evening. Usually they are up to the counter having dinner when I first open the door. Little eyes drift over to me and there is a split second of silence, and then "MOMMY!" "MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY!!!" It's impossible not to smile.
So to all you parents out there, how about more email traffic? And even if you don't want to send it out, still I encourage you to write it down. Someday these stories will be priceless, if only to a limited audience.
