August 31, 2008

We bought a piano. I had close to $100 sitting in my paypal account from my ebates rebate and found a digital casio full sized piano with stand on sale for $500, so minus the $100 (of essentially free money), only $400 - good deal! I just put it together today and Jocelyn is especially smitten. I had to drag her away from it to put her to bed, which finally gave Morgan a chance to play so he's in there playing now. I printed out some free sheet music of kids songs and need to write the notes on it for myself so I can play it. Josh and I are fighting over whether I can put letter stickers on the keys to help the kids learn - he says it's cheating, I say so what. We'll see.

Timothy reported that there was a new kid at school in his class that lives in our neighborhood. I told him to be sure to be nice to him and ask him to play at recess. Well that paid off - turns out the kid has an inground pool! He showed up on Friday after dinner asking if Timothy could play but we had Tim and Amy over so I gave him our phone number and took his and said Timothy (or, excuse me, "Tim") would call on Saturday. Saturday Timothy went over there and they played and also went over to another kid's house to play and started a "sports club". Then today the new kid's family was having a party so I dropped Timothy off in his bathing suit at 2. He had instructions to not eat more than 2 burgers and not overstay his welcome. I walked in to introduce myself to the mom and also brought a bottle of wine and told her not to feel bad about sending him home at any time. I called at 7:15 to ask the mom to send him home. She said he had asked her a while ago if he should go home and she asked him what his parents said and he said he wasn't supposed to overstay him welcome, so she told him he could go back to playing. Then she told me he was the nicest kid she ever met and he could come back any time. Awww:) The kid was here to play for a bit on Saturday before Timothy went over there - he's about the same height as Timothy, a bit thinner, a bit of a lisp, and a bit aspergers - the perfect friend!

We've decided that Morgan is allergic to dogs, hence the sneezing and stuffy episodes at school. I asked his teacher if all the teachers/paras could wash their hands when they first get to school and she said sure thing. Not sure how much it will help. Tim and Amy were here Friday night and they didn't bring the dog and didn't even barely touch Morgan and he was stuffed up all night long. We've started the claritin again and got a referral from his doctor for an allergist to see if there's something stronger we can give him. I have to remind Josh to make an appointment this week. Anyway, his teacher said he had a good week despite the sneezing and was happy to be back.

Without the stuffed tomato there on Thursday Jocelyn enjoyed school just fine. She doesn't go on Fridays. Miss Dana emailed me today to ask if it was ok to do a unit on bugs considering that I listed bugs on her list of irrational fears, but I said it was only the real bugs she was afraid of, so that should be fine. Today I got 6 boxes of Kellogg's fruit snacks at the store - barbie, nemo, cinderella, etc - which are Jocelyn's favorite so she practically fainted when she saw them. Luckily they were on sale and I had a coupon!

Last night Uncle Joey came over to babysit and Josh and I went out for a late dinner, by ourselves! What a treat! There seems to be a point of contention over what Timothy explained his bed time to be, but I think we can overlook that. Definitely makes us appreciate having Uncle Joey live so close.

I did manage to drag myself out of bed to run again every morning this week, then also went yesterday, but today was just too pooped. I had a 15 day exercise streak going, but will have to start again tomorrow with day 1 again.

Jesse's learned to take his diaper off and pretty much pee wherever he pleases. Then he comes over and tells you he peed on the potty and shows you where. Not quite getting the concept! I see a lot of one piece outfits in his future! When I got home from grocery shopping today he came out into the garage and then stood by the edge, almost touching the driveway, and said "come on mommy - come on!" He talks so much, it's adorable. We find that just him or just Jocelyn are so easy to have, but put them both together and YIKES!! Mostly it's Jocelyn, though sometimes it's Jesse. They did at least play nicely together at the piano today, probably because we have no bench so there was nothing to push the other person off of.

Josh got some limited quiet this week. Morgan's bus continues to be late so not sure what's going on there.

I guess that's it from here. Yay for a 3 day weekend! Not much for plans tomorrow. Maybe a trip to the park ...
