Yesterday was warm enough to actually go outside. Wasn't quite as warm as it looked when I got there though! So I was running back and forth on the sidewalk of the house trying to warm up and Jocelyn and Jesse started following me. Then Jesse had to pee so went in with Josh and Jocelyn asked if we could go far away from the house. So we ran around the block - about 1/2 mile - and she ran the whole way happily beside me. I was running slowly, but not much slower than when I run with Timothy. On the way down the street away from the house, she says "oh mama, this is WONDERFUL!" She's such a cutie!
Today was much warmer - like short sleeves warmer. So I asked her if she wanted to run around the block again. She got all excited "oh yes! Can we do our exercises?!?!" This time we dragged Timothy with us. We ran around the block again and as we came to the driveway she asked if she got a star. I said she sure did and she slapped me five and yelled "YAY!" I didn't have an actual star for her, but she seemed fine with that. Then we all played basketball and rode cars in the driveway. Jesse's dribbling skills are impressive for age 2. Then we played soccer in the front yard while everyone going to our neighbor's party starred at us as they walked by. It was so nice to be outside!
Jesse has learned that he's not supposed to poop in his pants but doesn't want to poop on the potty, so now whenever he has to poop he screams and cries and whines and it's a big darn production. If we offer him a diaper he still screams. If I force him to sit on the potty he does eventually poop but screams the whole time. oy!
Morgan's teacher says he's doing very well at school and her only concerns are with his self-help skills (dressing himself, using utensils - which he still doesn't do - etc). She says he's now doing 20 minutes of "independent time" each afternoon when he has no para helping him. He has a list of things to do and has to read each task from the list and perform them. I actually think this is pretty cool! She also says he's very good with money and she wants to make him a rewards system where he gets to buy rewards from a classroom store. I told her I should start charging him for his dinner and laundry!
Josh and Timothy got haircuts together yesterday and then went to a minor league hockey game. Timothy got in the chair for the haircut and the stylist asked Josh what she should do to it. "I dunno" was his reply - hahaha. It looks cute though - it's short on the sides and back and a little longer on top. Much cleaner looking. It was only $10 and then $16 for Josh - and for Josh she probably had to cut off 6 or 8 inches of thick curly hair! His is all short again. I need to cut Jesse's too but it's starting to curl out in the back and he just looks so cute!
Anyway, they went to the hockey game and sat in the 2nd row and there was a signed puck in the seat when they got there. Then the front row had an empty seat right in front of where Josh was sitting so Timothy got to move down. Timothy ended up right next to the penalty box. They both said it was super fun.
Jocelyn has been crying in the mornings as she goes to school. At first we thought it was because there was a new little boy in her class that was crying, but now he's fine and she's still crying. But when she talks about school she says she loves it and her teacher says that after the first few minutes she's just fine, so I don't know what is giving her anxiety. Friday when I got home from school I asked her how her play date at Madison's house was. She said:
No, I'm going to tell you about school. I drew a picture for Miss Dana and I said "close your eyes miss Dana" and she did and then she said "oooh I loooove it!" and she loved it and said she would put it on her fridge. And Fabian's dad's name is papa and Fabian doesn't cry any more. He has good days and loves school just like me.
I sent that story to her teacher, who enjoyed it and sent one back:
I meant to tell you yesterday - Jocelyn spilled a TINY drop of juice at snacktime. She RAN over to me with tears in her eyes (not crying, but about to) and she said "I need a timeout". I had no idea what she was talking about, but she managed to explain what happened. When I told her it wasn't a big deal and showed her how to clean it up with papertowel she asked, "I cleaned it up, so I don't need timeout?" I assured her that it was an accident and that she definitely didn't need timeout for an accident. She was happy. I couldn't figure out why she said that in the first place, but then I thought back to the previous week and realized that one of the other students PURPOSELY POURED his juice on the table and had timeout - she must have remembered that and thought she'd get the same consequence. She's really such a sweetheart!
Poor Jocelyn. She wants so desperately to "behave". (I don't know where she got that word - I don't use it - but she always tells me she behaved really great today). I wonder if she is anxious about doing something wrong if she misunderstands what the wrong things are. It does just appear to be an anxiety thing, and over soon enough each day so it's not like she's tortured all day or anything. But then also it started all of a sudden this week and she was fine right up until now. So confusing. And the most I can get out of her is that Miss Suzette says there is no whistling at school. haha
Oh, one more thing on Jocelyn. I asked her this week what she was going to be when she grew up. She looked at me with a puzzled face. So I said, "When you're big like Mommy what are you going to be?" And she smirked at me and said "A woman!"
Question of the week:
This week's question comes from Geneticist in Genoa who asks "do you have gray hairs?"
Why yes I do. I think my first popped up around age 30 but there were only a few for the last 5 years. Then in the last few months more and more have started to blossom. Gnarly little things. But hey, what can you do? Well I could color it I suppose, but I'm not quite there yet. We'll see...
