August 2, 2009

We made it here!  The traffic was really bad yesterday - I think we averaged maybe 20mph from Boxboro to Kittery.  So we were 90 minutes later than we expected to see Grammy Lessard, but still, not too much worse for the wear.  We periodically threw cereal and granola bars at the kids to keep them mostly quiet.  The little ones played their game boys and Josh piped The Rugrats movie through the radio via ipod, which kept Morgan happy.  I guess gone are the days when at least one kid’s slept in the car!  Jesse is much too busy saying "Mommy? ... Mommy?"  over and over and OVER AND OVER to catch any Zzzzs.

Oh, on the way up we pulled off the exit in Boxboro to use the bathroom (the line at the gas station was 5 people long!  So we went over to the Holiday Inn which had no line) and Morgan kept saying "see Grandma and Grandpa?"

We arrived at Grammy's around 2:30 and the kids were all happy to see her and give her hugs.  On the way to her apartment the kids asked if the dog was here still.  They remembered it from last year.  We got inside and everyone used the bathroom and then Jocelyn and Jesse wandered off into her bedroom.  Jocelyn returned quickly - "Grammy, it's so CLEAN in your room!"  Oh dear.

Anyway, we didn't stay for too long since we were running late.  We headed back to the highway and then grabbed some McD's real quick and up to Krainin to get our keys.  We were excited to find out that our place is less than 2 miles from Krainin! Plus, you never know how long down a dirt road you'll have to drive each year, and this year it's a fairly quick trip.  By the time we made up the beds I was dripping with sweat so we headed down to swim.  The beach is pebbly at first but then smooths out.  The water is awesome.  We swam for quite a while!

The house is nice - the master bedroom is downstairs and then 2 bedrooms upstairs - one with a queen and one with 2 twins and a set of bunks (double on bottom, twin on top).  Each bedroom has a flat screen TV, plus one in the kitchen and the living room - perfect for us!  We even managed to angle the one in the multi-bed room (where Morgan, Jocelyn, and Jesse are sleeping) such that everyone could see it - bonus.  There's a screened in porch with a picnic table, loveseat, and 2 chairs.  The kitchen is well stocked with amenities, including a dishwasher.  There's a washer/dryer off the kitchen.

It's overcast today but we still swam.  Poor Jesse has about zero percent body fat and was shaking and looking like a wet rat but refused to come out.  He wanted to "go with Timothy" so I carried him out deep.  He jumped off the dock several times and kicked around pretending to swim - didn't bother him at all (Jocelyn won't do it).  I even plugged his nose and dunked him twice and while he didn't like it, he didn't cry and still wanted me to hold him.  Morgan of course wants to stay in the water 24/7.  Today he figured out how to walk in about 3-4 steps and then just throw himself down belly flop style, which he thought was hysterical.  Jocelyn has put her face in a couple times but mostly enjoys finding all the shiny rocks ("oh, this one is just a baby!  I will take care of her until I find her a mommy").  And Timothy, well he has his mask, so it's like he was born to be in the water.

Oh - Timothy had golf camp this week.  I think he did pretty well - he certainly enjoyed it.  On the last day they give them a completion certificate with an 8 picture series of his swing on the back of it - looks good to me!
