February 22, 2009

Well this was a very exciting day!  Jesse decided to use the potty!  Wait, I have to start with a little back story.

So Timothy has gotten really super about entertaining and feeding the other kids in the mornings so we can sleep.  This morning Josh and I slept until 10!!  The only thing Timothy doesn't do (understandably) is diapers.  So when we got up this morning, Jesse was running around with no pants or diaper on.  I headed in to put in a load of laundry while Josh made coffee, and I heard Jesse say "oh oh, I have to pee on the potty", which usually means he just peed on the floor.  So I finished putting the laundry in and grabbed a towel to go clean it up, but he had actually gone in and peed on the potty!  He proceeded to use the potty all day.  He did have one accident when I put underpants on him, and he did ask for a diaper to poop, but besides that, he used it all day!  It'll definitely be a bigger issue when he can't be constantly nekkid, but for day 1, this is super.  The other issue is he insists on standing like the other boys, so not sure how we're going to work on the pooping, but whatever, I'll worry about that later.

Yesterday we went up to MA for the February birthday party.  It was super fun.  I always forget how much fun Morgan has.  It doesn't necessarily seem that way while it's happening, but when we got in the car to go home, he was all smiles and said "did you have fun?"  So I asked him if he had fun, and he said "YES!"  Pretty cute. Jocelyn LOVED all her presents - she's pretty easy to please - she likes anything that is girly.  All the kids were just happy to see each other and play.

Tomorrow the kids go back to school.  Josh is torn - he gets a lot more sleep when they are home, but a lot more peace when they are gone!  haha.

Jocelyn has become attached to the homemade cabbage patch doll that my mom made me when I was little.  It has the same birthday dress as her, which I think she especially likes.  One night this week she forgot to bring the baby to bed and asked for it.  I didn't know where it was so I offered to get her a different baby from the closet.  "No Mommy, I don't want to switch babies, I want MY baby.”  Awww, I had to go track it down.

The great hair experiment continues.  Timothy looks like he's wearing a helmet. Morgan looks great - flowing wavy 70s hair.  Jesse looks like a mad professor. Jocelyn's bangs are past her eyes and almost to where they will sweep to the side. Josh's hair is almost down to his shoulders.  Josh is the only one complaining, but I'm on strike, so he can go get it cut or suck it up!

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes.  I had a very nice birthday.  I left work early and when I got home, all the kids jumped out and yelled surprise.  Jesse was so excited to yell surprise - I thought he was going to jump right out of his skin!  Josh and the kids gave me leg warmers and bubble bath - yay!  Jocelyn made me a card with balloons that had happy faces.  Jesse made me a card but then decided it was his and I couldn't have it.  Susan and Jonathan sent flowers (much to Jocelyn's delight - after yelling surprise she shouted - come see your rainbow flowers!).  My parents sent the Wii game "My Fitness Coach" which I used both yesterday and today and is pretty good.  Then yesterday I got footless socks from Mandy (which Jesse wore today as legwarmers and looked hysterical in) and an Aquarius shirt from Elisabeth.  All in all it was a very nice birthday.

question of the Week:

This week's question comes to us from Rich in Richmond who writes "I have such a hard time buying gifts for Morgan, what can I give him that he'll like?"

Well, Rich, that's a toughie.  He's an unpredictable little man.  He does like those toys with all the silver pins where you make molds of your hands and face - what are those things called?  He also enjoys 2 piece button down flannel PJs as we recently learned.  When we want to give him little rewards, M&Ms are always a hit.  I also try to find new and interesting sensory/manipulative toys for him, but they have to stand up to a pretty good beating.  I found this great squeezy/gooey ball thing but he bit it and the thing exploded orange goo all over the place.  When people send him money for his birthday or whatever, I tend to buy things to make him comfortable - like pants with an elastic waist or an air purifier or some new fancy cream for his eczema.  But really if you can find some random thing with an interesting texture, that’s as likely to please as anything else.
