I was thinking to myself the other day, that one main key to getting what you want is telling people what that is. Amazing that this is such a secret, but from what I can tell, not that many people are aware. I had this one employee that was sort of sour to deal with. Good, but kind of cranky and persnickety. Not an issue for her current position but turns out she thought she was awesome and wanted a promotion. So I was forced to tell her that she was not in fact awesome, and I needed her to be more pleasant to work with. She reacted poorly (understatement) and yelled at me for a while. Then she went home for the weekend. Starting Monday she was the most pleasant person on the planet. That was almost 2 months ago, and she's still peaches and cream all the time. And that wasn't the only advice I gave her. I told her exactly what I would need to see for her to get promoted, and like a text book, she's walking through the steps. And this week, I finally met her.
It's weird in this day of remote managing - difficult to manage someone you have never met, in some cases may never meet. But not so weird I guess - I still have to tell her what I want if I expect it to happen. I told her recently how great she was doing and how I was clearly the best manager in the world. After all, it's all about me right?
I don't remember if I mentioned that Jesse is seeing Mrs Gerber twice a week now. He reported that he sat nicely on his star mat during the songs and then played. He really loves it. Jesse continues to be a cruddy sleeper and often wanders in to our room at odd hours and says he wants to sleep in my bed. We're making progress though - now I tell him that he can't come in until morning when the light comes out. Then he asks for a hug and goes back to his room.
Jocelyn has started referring to anything that's happened in the past as "yesterday" and anything that hasn't happened yet as "tomorrow". Like yesterday we went on vacation, and tomorrow is Hanukkah. Today she was telling me something or other than happened yesterday, and then added "or maybe it was last week". Hee hee.
Timothy and Josh went to NYC on Saturday to meet up with Joey (who had been there for the week) and Susan and Jonathan. Seems they had quite a good time, with the highlight being the guys dressed in full KISS get-ups they ran into in a restaurant and Timothy got his picture taken with. On the subject of pictures, Timothy's school pictures came back before Morgan's even got taken - they turned them around fast this year! I hope the others come back quickly too.
Morgan really needs a haircut, yikes, but it's also so 70s awesome looking, I hate to do it! I’ll at least wait until after pictures.
While Josh was in NYC, I managed to get all the holiday gifts I've ordered so far taken out and wrapped and looks like I'm almost done! Woo hoo! Yeah, I know, you're jealous - or else you think I'm a freak of nature, which just really doesn't bother me.
