Happy New Year!
I was off of work this week. I learned a few things. First, the Wii Fit taught me that I cannot stand on one leg for very long. Second, there does not to be a cause nor a solution to Jesse's whining. There were also some funny conversations, one sticks out in my mind...
Jocelyn: Mommy, I need glue.
me: Not right now sweetie, maybe later.
Jocelyn: Mommy, look at my eyes.
I look
Jocelyn: I. WANT. GLUE.
I have no idea where she got that - I don't tell her to look at my eyes and I am guessing Josh doesn't either. In other Jocelyn-related news, she finally took off her leotard today. She wore the black one from Christmas until it walked off her, then the pink one from the Great-Grammies until she spilled juice on it. All week in this freezing weather she wore only a leotard and skirt. She's crazy. Today when I told her they were both in the laundry and she had to wear something else and it had to be pants, she found a summer tank top with capris set to wear. I don't know how she doesn't freeze!
All of us enjoyed the Wii Fit this week. Jocelyn and Jesse like the ski jump and the soccer balls (you have to hit them with your head). Jesse just stands there - which means he either falls off the ski jump and tumbles down the hill or gets hit only with the soccer balls (or shoes) that come straight down the middle. He thinks it's hysterical. Jocelyn is more skilled and can actually do the ski jump, can hit some soccer balls, and also enjoys the one where you have to sit still and if you move, the candle goes out. Her record is 31 seconds. We tried getting Morgan on to it with limited success. Josh stood behind him and pushed and pulled to have him hit soccer balls, which had him giggling pretty good, but mostly he prefers to watch. Timothy and I have a competition going and so far I'm way ahead. The only thing I can't seem to top is his hula hoop record. The hula hoop one is surprisingly difficult!
oh - Timothy's basketball team finally won a game! 15-10. In other words, his team is bad, but the other team was truly awful. Timothy got 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist. Mostly though, he just looks confused, like he's looking for something but can't find it. Maybe it's over there. Still, I gave him a high-five and told him great job as we walked out. Behind us some dad was berating his son - "You were awful out there today. Looked like you hadn't played in a month!" ouch. I glanced back at the kid, who was clearly letting it go in one ear and out the other, and desperately wanted to be rolling his eyes but knew better, so props to him for that. Anyway, on the way home in the car, Timothy says "how come in the movies whenever the kid wins a game, they get to go for pizza?" haha - nice try!
Jesse continues to whine constantly. oyoyoyoy he's such a giant pain sometimes! But then all of a sudden he's little mister perfect and so freakin' cute. I guess it comes with being 2, though I don't remember the others being this bad. His sentence structure continues to amaze me. A few quotes from Jesse:
"Mommy, I want bubbly water in a cup but Jocelyn doesn't want bubbly water." (yup, he's already a big liar)
"Mommy, I want to watch sponge bob on TV when I go to bed. I'm tired." (at a time when he was clearly not tired)
"Morgan, stop it! No pushing me!" (only flaw here is that Morgan didn't actually push him, or touch him at all)
Jocelyn and Jesse had some especially cute moments this week. Lying on the couch together, Jocelyn says to Jesse "I love you Jesse" to which he replies "yes, you love me". They seem to be able to take turns at everything except the Wii Fit, which Jocelyn is good at waiting for her turn but Jesse is NOT.
Jesse locked himself in his bedroom this week. Twice. I have a new technique for sleeping in.
When I hear Jesse up, I make sure I hear some other kids downstairs. Then I reach across the hallway, open his door slightly, and quickly slip back into my room before he sees me. He is happy to be released and goes downstairs to play with his siblings. This has kept me and Josh in bed past 9 all week. Well, except one day, when I reached across and the door was locked. So I had to go find a straight screwdriver small enough to fit in the little hole because our door knobs are not the kind that just pop with a paper clip, you have to put in a little screwdriver, line it up, and turn it to release. Then I let him out and snuck back into my room. He did it again later in the day, so now we just keep the screwdriver handy. Silly kid.
The boys all need haircuts. I was noticing that on Timothy's basketball team, they all have long bushy hair. I figured that would be way easier if I just avoided cutting hair this winter. Morgan's long curly hair is beautiful but creates quite the bed head! Still, long hair suits him fine, though it needs to be cleaned up around the ears. Timothy, on the other hand, looks like he's wearing a helmet. I'm not giving up though. We'll see what it looks like in another month before deciding. Jesse doesn't have much hair really, so his just looks like a flustered professor with thinning whisps. Ah well, no picture days at school in the near future.
I guess the only thing I've left out is resolutions. No grand resolutions this year - just trying to lose the same 15 lbs as last year and trying to maintain some level of sanity.
