Saturday, June 4, 2005

Well, this was quite an eventful week I guess. Wednesday was our 9 year anniversary - wow! However, since I'm the worst wife ever, I went big ball bowling with a group of finance folks from work. Just for a string though (I broke 70! Yeah, I suck) and then came home to meet Josh and the kids coming back from Timothy's baseball game. We put the boys to bed and had some champagne and tried to remember how it is we stayed married.

Thursday was Morgan's graduation, which I think I've already covered, and then Friday one of his classmates had a party, which Josh took him to! (Josh took Jocelyn too). Anyway, while Morgan did seem excited that he knew the kids, he still didn't much play with anyone, though Josh said they all liked him and kept coming over to try to play with him, so that was nice.

Today was Timothy's birthday. He was sooooooooooo excited about his party. Everyone RSVP'd that they were coming but only 7 of 9 kids showed up. Still, it was great fun. I must say those Chuck E. Cheese's folks are super organized. I bought matching bright green t-shirts for all the kids so I would know who was with us, though most of the moms stayed any way. The tokens held out until the end and every kid got to buy something with their tickets (Timothy got 500 tickets for being the birthday boy and 2x 100 for the 2 kids that didn't show up, so he got something really nice!). He loved all his presents and cards – and read each card in full before opening the gift. Josh took video game duty at the party while I was on table duty. He did tokens, I did drinks. It all went very smoothly.

Tim and Amy watched Morgan and Jocelyn while we were at the party. The report was a good one when we got home, and Uncle Tim says Jocelyn is a perfect baby .... as long as you don't put her down. Still, it did seem she was happy to have him hold her and didn't spend much time screaming, so that's good. And when she saw me he was instantly not who she wanted, so that was nice too.

After what felt like not nearly enough rest time, I got to take Timothy to his baseball game. I hadn't been yet this season and today seemed as good a day as any (though a bit toasty - luckily there was shade). His game was not quite as thrilling as watching paint dry. I had to slap myself awake several times. Each kid keeps getting pitches until he hits - with the first 7 or 8 corning from a teammate and then the coach pitching after that. I could NOT stay focused on the game. The poor catcher was really just a target for the ball to bounce off of before the assistant coach would grab it and through it back to the coach on the pitcher's mound (or the place they threw from, which was only halfway to the pitcher's mound), who would hand it gently to the pitcher. One kid could run like the wind, but he couldn't hit water falling out of a boat. Timothy has a nice swing and only takes 10 or so pitches to hit it, but I could crawl to first base faster than that, so he was out each time. He also can't catch. Only one kid on the team was any good and he was a REALLY good fielder. You could tell he just wanted to get every ball no matter where it was because he knew he was playing with the Bad News Bears, but he managed to restrain himself and only play the 4 middle positions. Timothy was not particularly good at getting out of his way, but he was, after all, standing where he should be. The other team was not as much of a bunch of misfits as we were, though they aren't going pro any time soon.

So we're walking out of the game and Timothy's asking if I saw that? Did I? And did I see him on 2nd base? And 3rd base? And the big hit he got?  And when he got to pitch?  Yes dear, I didn't take my eyes off you the whole time and you rocked. With his birthday party and baseball game and all his presents, he says that this is the best day EVER. 7 years ago today wasn't so bad either I think.

Well, I got no packing at all done today. I only have 4 or 5 boxes left - I had to order more and they won't be here until Tues or Wed, so tomorrow I'll fill what I've got and call it a day.
