I can't sleep this morning. Not sure how I was sleeping last night, but I woke up an hour ago with my hand so asleep I couldn't feel it and could barely move it. It took a while to work the kinks out, and by then I was up (and so was Jocelyn). I was having this weird dream that I was trying to drive to school in the snow but my brakes weren't working very well and I was having trouble shifting. It was better than the dream before, which was about children burning in a fire. I had watched Anatomy of September 11th before going to bed Saturday night - which was a mistake. Last night we watched Signs, with Mel Gibson, which was scary but fictional - and movies always tend to end with at least some resolution, unlike real life.
Met with Morgan's teachers on Friday. His new teacher is Miss Julie, and she was hired about 2 weeks before school started, maybe not even. She seems a little lost and overwhelmed, but is holding it together for the most part. Morgan has transitioned pretty well and so far has only pinched his teacher from last year once (he'll pinch the others once he knows them better I'm sure, I told Miss Nancy to look alive, but maybe this year he won't bite them).
They can't get him to eat but I told her not to stress it - he's almost 40 lbs now, and just 2 or 3 inches shorter than Timothy (Timothy is 46 inches tall and around 45 Ibs), so he seems to be getting enough nutrition. The doctor was very happy with his growth in the last year.
Our meeting ended with a fire drill, so I skipped around front in hopes of finding Timothy's class lined up - which I did. He saw me coming from across the lawn but I could tell he wasn't quite sure it was me. When I finally got close enough for him to be sure, he told his teacher I was there, but said nothing else. I had heard the teacher tell the kids no talking as I was walking up - and the whole time I stood there and chatted with her, he didn't make a peep. She was REALLY nice and I liked her a lot. Of course, that was mostly because she gushed on and on about how adorable he was, how she could just eat him up, and how smart he was, etc., etc., which is always fun to hear. The all-clear bell rang so I gave Timothy a quick hug and headed to my car. He still didn't say a word, just stood with his buddy holding hands, but did give me a smile and wave with the other hand. When he got home, I guess quiet time was over, and he had lots to say. Luckily he didn't mention anything about me hugging him at school, so I guess that was ok.
Timothy's reading abilities continue to improve, and are rather impressive if I do say so myself. He read me a Sponge Bob joke book the other day, and only couldn't read one word in the whole book. I can't recall which word it was, but it wasn't crustacean. Isn't that crazy?? I could see his eyes move across the joke first, reading it quickly to himself before he read it to me, so that he knew where to stop and wait before giving the punch line. And I know he had never read it before, because I took it out of the wrapper and handed it to him to read. Nuts, I tell you, just nuts.
On the down side, I've started trying to teach Timothy to tie his shoes, but at the rate we're going, I estimate he might very well go to college in velcro. Maybe he'll go somewhere warm and won't need shoes.
I did some shopping on Saturday. I went to Target and got some baby stuff – including THE cutest knit one-piece rompers! I was there to get pull-ups (Morgan doesn’t seem to have a rash issue with them any more) and hair clippers, but couldn't find hair clippers so got movies and baby clothes instead. Then I went to Linens 'n' Things and did find the hair clippers (so Timothy got a buzz cut on Saturday), and also a beard trimmer for Josh (which has a nose and ear hair attachment - how exciting!).
Sunday we went to Mandy's for Sage's 1st birthday. Sage and Ruby get cuter by the minute, and their new house is pretty cool. The backyard was bigger than I expected, and more than big enough for the crowd to play. Timothy and Morgan were the only boys in the kid-crowd. I held Sage momentarily - she was already screaming, so at least I didn't inspire that part. Dad helped me get a kiss from Ruby. He basically tried to kiss her and as she ran from him, she ran into me!
