Ok, I admit it, I'm a big cheater. I give Jocelyn a bottle of formula each night at 11pm so that she'll sleep longer. I hope this doesn't count as loving sleep more than I love her! It's just that she then proceeds to sleep 5 or 5 1/2 hours and I can't resist. My milk supply is not quite sufficient and she's been nursing from about 3pm to 11pm taking only short nap breaks - you know, the kind where she sleeps if holding onto a boob but once taken away she decides she wants it back NOW, NOW NOW NOW.

I got some Mother's Milk Tea and have been drinking it like it's going out of style, but I'm not sure how much it's helping. I tried pumping yesterday morning and this morning, but am not getting too much before I get frustrated and stop.

We had a very nice dinner with Susan and Jonathan last night. Jocelyn was good for about 10 minutes and then ate the rest of the time. We're going to see them for lunch today and hoping Jocelyn will be a little more social. She really does have some quite alert parts of the day, but it's difficult to predict when those will be.

Our stomach bug seems to have passed but now Josh is getting a cold. Susan has one as well - I suppose along with a good portion of the Northeast. Still, I took my Echinacea hoping to avoid it for me and for Jocelyn. The boys are ok so far.

I feel a little behind as I haven't even decided what to do for birth announcements yet, much less actually done it. With Timothy and Morgan I'm pretty sure I had them sent out by this point. I searched around a few web sites but just don't know what I want. I think I need to do a photo shoot with her first and then see which announcement could work my favorite shots in the best.

Morgan had another bite-free week at school (of course, he missed half the week due to the bug, but still, we'll take what we can get). Timothy's got another loose tooth, which seems to be giving him much less anxiety than the first one, so that's good.

What really cute is that Jocelyn will take a binky from Timothy, but not from Josh. He sits next to her in her seat and she stares at him - she loves him already! Morgan is starting to take interest in her as well, and likes to point to her and say "time to wake up?" He enjoys sitting next to her chair as well, and has stopped fleeing the room when she cries (just covers his ears instead). He always asks before touching her (continues to be very gentle), and generally prefers to just look. Timothy is very interested in the nursing process, and asked me the other day how I got the milk in there. He asked what it tasted like and I offered to put some in a cup for him, but he declined.

He also asked if that was how he ate when he was a baby, so I had to explain he was a lazy baby and preferred the bottle, and that I didn't have enough milk for him.  This is a bit of an issue for me as I still regret not having tried harder with him, and with Morgan too. Both broke out with eczema soon after I stopped nursing, and for Morgan it was so very bad, resulting in three rounds of steroids and much itching on his part.  Poor thing, it was so sad, and I have always wondered if that had a long-term impact on him…  But of course I didn’t say all that to Timothy, I just said he was a lazy baby and I didn’t have enough milk.

He seemed quite fascinated by the story and now proceeds to repeat it to strangers and friends alike. When asked what it's like to have a new baby in the house, he replies that it's very hard because she cries a lot and is loud when she cries. He also asked the other day what would happen if he and Morgan and Jocelyn all had a problem at the same time. Such a worrier! We decided that he could help Jocelyn and I could help him and Josh could help Morgan and then everyone would be happy.

Josh has been so great this week. He feels guilty for not doing more for Jocelyn and me, but I think he's being amazingly helpful. He gave me a 30 minute break to talk to my mom the other evening that I was very thankful for, and when I told him how great he was to do it, he explained that if he only got 30 minutes of peace a day, he'd hate me. I thought holding a crying baby for 30 minutes was quite a feat in itself and that he did a great job.

Oddly enough, she loves the changing table and usually doesn't cry when being changed, so we often put her there just to calm her down. She's definitely a little princess though - can't stand being wet and will only poop in a new, clean diaper! We finished off a 40 pack plus the freebies from the hospital this week - she's no cheap date!
