March 12, 2006

Well I finally finished my taxes and they are printing - YAY!

I had Morgan's parent-teacher conference on Friday with Miss Cutler and Mrs. Freitas. They were very pleased with his progress. His report card actually wasn't half bad. The academic stuff he's pretty much up to where he should be with some minor things that she just can't manage to explain to him (like he can sort by 1 attribute but not by 2 but she thinks he just doesn't understand). His writing lags but is improving. He knows all the sounds of the letters except the I and the hard g, which she said was actually above average. All in all quite a good report and we talked about next year with no hesitation to the fact that he'll be moving on to first grade.

Liz also went through his IEP and he's mastered all his academic goals and so for the last couple weeks they've been concentrating on the language ones which are still hit or miss. I could actually tell that's what they've been working on though, because he's started using sentences at home instead of just words - without any prompting.

They also said he has a group of about 6 friends where he knows their names and they are nice to him and look out for him. Isn't that sweet? They said his flapping is very decreased, as is the nail biting (and in general - still only the 1 biting incident this year!). He's able to go to specials with only voice prompts. He can line up with the class and wait and walk quietly and follow directions in music and gym (I don't think he goes to art? not sure). More and more he's been coming home with his "centers" sheet checked off for the day. And he loves to do the weather still but is able to wait his turn as well. I keep forgetting to ask how much time he spends in class, but it certainly sounds like a lot. I'll have to email Liz and ask her.

So that's the Morgan update. Both teachers really adore him and he is having a super year. I'm impressed with how accommodating they are when he isn't doing well and how fast his schedule gets adjusted. For example, this week he kept taking his shoes off (I swear they are not too small!) so they made a deal that he could have them off at his cubicle but not once he got up. They said it worked great for getting him to do work. He had a rough week the week before Christmas so Liz adjusted some of his activities and then he did better. It's really fantastic.

Let's see - there must be more. With Timothy it's pretty much same ol' same ol'. I'll have his parent-teacher conference next week (Thursday). Jocelyn continues to be a sassy little thing - developing quite the attitude. We all got to go outside to play yesterday and Jocelyn was particularly happy to get to walk around in such a wide open space. She kept heading away, just away. I think we'll have to worry about her running when she's a little older! She also liked the little play house which I washed off, and the little slide.
