June 23, 2007

Jesse gained another 8 oz this week! yay! Our home baby scale says he is 14lbs 13oz - a regular little chunker. It's definitely having a favorable impact on his sleep. He basically slept at least 5 hours in a row all week. Then Thursday night I decided it was time to get him into the crib. So he got a yogurt at 8:30pm and then I nursed him from 9-10 and we started the crib routine of putting him in and shhhhhhh'ing/ patting him and then leaving for 5 min while he cried, repeat. I never lengthened it to longer than 5 min. After 45 min he was finally asleep and he slept for 6 hours.

Last night we moved the routine up 30 minutes, and the going-to-sleep part only took 30 min, and then he slept for 6hrs and 45 min! yay! So today we did the same thing for naptime and he went down without crying at all. He woke up after 30 min but a quick binky/shhhh/pat and he was out again. That was 90 min ago and I hear him just now waking up. Not bad at all! I guess I'll go grab him and congratulate him on his wonderful nap and finish this later.

Ok, now holding a freshly changed and well-rested Jesse, so we'll finish this email together. Anyway, Jesse's new weight looks quite good on him. We had to retire any remaining 0-3 month clothes and now some of the 3-6s are starting to get a bit snug. Unfortunately, none of the other kids were in 6-9 month clothes for the summer, so I was hoping to stretch out the 3-6s ... but I don't think that's going to happen!

Actually Jocelyn might have had some maybe I've at least got some neutral PJs, which is what really doesn't fit any more.

The extra sleep is doing me some good too. I brought him in bed with me this morning at 4:45 when he got up and then we nursed/snoozed until 6:15 and then got up for the day and it didn't even feel early! Josh gave him bananas for breakfast while I went out for a run.

The same ol' neighborhood run has gotten a little dull so I left the neighborhood and ran up Avery past Timothy's school and into a sub-division called Chase Orchards. BEAUTIFUL houses!

The main road goes slowly uphill - the houses at the top have an incredible view. There's a clubhouse with tennis courts and a basketball court. The hill would usually wear me out pretty good but I was so enjoying looking at all the houses that it went by quickly. It was a bit stepford-wives though - all the mailboxes were exactly the same, all the lawns were mowed to the same length, etc. The houses were all different though, but all very nice. One was set back with trees in front so I couldn't see all of it but from what I could see it was enormous. There was a sign out front - "please curb your dog". That made me giggle pretty good. I turned around once I hit 2 miles so then I only had to run home - managed to run 4.1 miles in 45 minutes.

School let out Tuesday (which was a half day) so Josh has been a little more crazed than usual by the time I get home. On the upside though, he doesn't have to get up by a certain time in the morning, and sometimes Jesse and Jocelyn will sleep until 8. Morgan will go to summer school for 5 weeks starting the week after next. Timothy is signed up for one week of baseball camp (day camp) and one week of 'spy' camp (also just days). I guess at spy camp they all pretend they are secret agents on a mission or something. It was cheap and sounded fun, so there you go.

Josh has been trying to start an herb garden out on the porch. He's got some plant pots with little seeds and markers with 4 different herbs - oregano is one but I forget the others. Anyway, Jocelyn's new favorite thing to do is take out the markers and put thern all in one pot - right in the middle where the seeds are. Her other new favorite trick is taking a sip of water and slowly spitting it out so that it runs down the front of her shirt. Nice! And very lady like to boot. She doesn't only do it with water - pretty much with any drink - which is why she no longer gets anything but water unless she's at the table and wearing clothing that I don't care about. Oooh, on the subject of clothes, I need to go switch the laundry! brb!

On the subject of laundry, Josh got to find out what happens when you put a disposable diaper through both the washer and the dryer this week! What a mess!

I guess Jesse is the star of my email this week but I have to also mention that he's starting to scoot - but only backwards! He just gets farther and farther away from what he's trying to get. He gets a real determined look on his face, but it doesn't seem to help - haha. He's also much more easy going these days. He requires way less holding. I don't even think Josh puts him in the carrier any more. He's happy to play on the floor for a bit, then the exersaucer, then the jumper, then his favorite - the walker! Then he's ready to eat again - haha.

Well, off to fold the laundry. My friend Beka nd her husband and son are coming after lunch for a visit, so it has to look like she doesn't need to call DSS on us.
