June 17, 2007

Happy Father's Day! We've had a nice day here. It was really nice out this morning so we decided we'd pack a picnic lunch and take a stroll down memory lane - a trip out to UConn. Despite how close we are we've never taken the kids before. By the time Jesse napped and ate and we got everything packed up and the kids dressed, it wasn't sunny any more - hee hee. But we went just the same. We parked by the Co-op and put J&J in the double stroller and I pushed that while Josh pulled Morgan by the wrist (such a dawdler!) and Timothy asked a whole bunch of questions about college.

We set up at Mirror Lake and were quickly approached by about 20 ducks/ ducklings - one group of teens, one with 4 school age, one mom with 2 babies. None were fond of each other, all were fond of us!

Jocelyn had a field day. Between the ducks and the little white weed flowers that coated the lawn, she was just too excited. Morgan tried to touch one of the mom ducks. The mom squawked at him. We had our lunch and then gave some Fritos to the ducks, making us even more popular. Jocelyn got quite good at herding them by running behind and squealing. I got a bunch of pictures that I'll get downloaded soon and add to the June page. I even brought the tripod and got a picture of all 6 of us.

Then we packed up and dropped everything off at the car and went in to the Co-op for some shopping. I treated myself to some overpriced workout clothes and got Timothy a baseball shirt and a baseketball ensemble that was on clearance. I told Jocelyn to pick whatever she wanted - she wanted sippy cups and a mini football. Morgan got a football shirt and Jesse got a stuffed frog with a UConn shirt on.

On the way out Morgan saw what he R EALL Y wanted - candy, so then of course we had to get some for everyone. We paused in the coffee shop on the way out so I could feed Jesse before we got back in the car - the kids all had their candy and Jocelyn got some power water for her new sippy cup. We took a drive past our old apartment and then took the backroads home. It was a very nice day.

Yesterday we went to Elisabeth's for the annual father's day get together. Much better weather than last year (must have hit 100 last year!) and the kids were all so cute together. Everyone can now vouch for the fact that Jocelyn does NOT stop talking - EVER! She enjoyed the sprinkler and cake the most. And of course she batted her eyes at grandpa repeatedly. Morgan spent most of the afternoon displacing the stones in Rob's previously neat walkway (sorry Uncle Rob!) and was generally out of sorts. We had even remembered to bring food with us so he would get to eat (he's a super picky eater - we couldn't even slip that whole grain white bread past him!), but it didn't seem to make a difference in his disposition - it's just too many people for him.

Jesse got to impress grandpa with his appetite, so grandpa will now vouch for the fact that I don't starve him - haha (though he gained a whole pound this week! he's turning into a regular chunker!). Timothy, hmmm, I don't think we saw Timothy the whole time - he was off playing. He says it was a great day though, so I guess he had fun. About 15 minutes before we left Jocelyn asked Josh if she could go to bed! We got packed up in our usual whirlwind and she was asleep before we got to the highway, as was Jesse, so a nice peaceful ride home.

Jesse desperately wants to crawl. He's trying so hard to get up on his hands and knees but just can't manage. He can move about somewhat by rolling and pivoting, but he doesn't quite get where he wants to go. We got a walker for him and he LOVES IT. (yes, I know, letting your kid use a walker shows questionable parenting judgment, but whatever - it keeps him happy for much longer than anything else!). He can really get some speed going too - it's pretty cute.

His sleep was all over the place this week - 3 nights he slept 5 hours or more in a stint, the rest he barely slept at all.  It's a little nuts! Must be a growth spurt.

Tuesday is the last day of school. Josh doesn't seem too stoked about it - haha. Morgan will have 5 weeks of summer school starting the week of 4th of July and then a week after we go on vacation, so he should be generally entertained at least. I got all the teacher gifts last weekend so just have to figure out how to get them to school.

Jocelyn has taken a greater interest in Jesse lately and boy does that make him happy! He could stare and giggle at her all day.

I had a tough week as far as motivating to exercise, but I did manage to work in 3 days of 3 mile runs (I changed routes to include more hills, so I can't make it as far but I think I'm getting a better workout) and then mixed it up between the treadmill and yoga the other days. I have all day training tomorrow and Tues and will be late so may not get to work out (it's leadership training - gag) or at least not for very long. I also won't get to pump except maybe once at lunch, so it's just going to be bummer days all around!
